T30 Replacement Hard Drive

#1 Post by gmcl » Wed Oct 05, 2005 3:37 pm

Went and dropped my trusty T30 the other night. After much testing/messing about, came to conclusion that the drive was well dead.

Looking to purchase either a new or second hand drive. Am I restricted to a straight replacement. The old 40GB drive was an Hitachi IC25N040ATCS04-0. I think the notebook is model 2366 41G (kids conveniently removed the sticker from the back).

Any advise greatly received before I purchase something that is not compatible.

Also any ideas on best place to purchase (UK).

Cheers

First off, this should have gone in the T series forum, not this forum.

Could a mod move it?

Now, to answer your question...

Any 2.5" Parallel ATA drive that is 9.5mm thick will do. I've got a Samsung Spinpoint M MP0402H (40GB, 5400RPM) coming my way to replace the HDD in this laptop, which was an IBM Travelstar IC25N020ATCS04-0 (the 20GB version of your drive).

A suggestion for a laptop that new, though, would be the Hitachi 7K60. 60GB, 7200RPMs.
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)
Past: T61p 15.0" QXGA, T60p 15.0" QXGA, X61 Tablet SXGA+, R51e 14.1" XGA, X21
