Rescue & Recovery 3 - Error Messages

#1 Post by kentkrogh » Wed Oct 05, 2005 4:28 pm

While backing up my HD, received about 20 error messages as follows:

"R&R unable to backup the file ''C:\Documents and Settings\kent krogh\local settings\Application Data\Microsoft Windows\UsrClass.dat" because file is either corrupted or being used by another application. Please close any applications using the file. Type either RETRY, SKIP, or CANCEL. I typed SKIPped.

Other file names were:

''C:\Documents and Settings\kent krogh\local settings\Application Data\Microsoft Windows\UsrClass.dat.log"

''C:\Documents and Settings\kent krogh\NTUSER.dat"

''C:\Documents and Settings\kent krogh\NTUSER.dat.log"

''C:\Documents and Settings\local service\NTUSER.dat"

''C:\Documents and Settings\local service\NTUSER.dat.log"

''C:\Documents and Settings\network service\NTUSER.dat"

''C:\Documents and Settings\network service\NTUSER.dat.log"

"C:\windows\system32\config\default"

"C:\windows\system32\config\default.log"

"C:\windows\system32\config\software"

"C:\windows\system32\config\software.log"

"C:\windows\system32\config\system"

"C:\windows\system32\config\system.log"

"C:\windows\system32\config\SAM"

"C:\windows\system32\config\SAM.log"

"C:\windows\system32\config\security"

"C:\windows\system32\config\security.log"

Is my backup OK? Do I need these files? I could not even find all these files on my HD using Windows Explorer. I had no known apps running other than possibly some processes that loaded during boot up. I did a HD "error-check" , the old Chk-Dsk, before backing up.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

I've seen simular entries when backing up with Stomp Backup MyPC version 4 and version 5. I believe this is fairly normal, and should not cause any problem. I've done restores with these files not being backed up, and did not see any problem. Interestingly I just upgraded to Stomp Backup MyPC version 6 recently, and it claimed all files were backed up without any errors.

Yes, these are basically the same files that would not back up with my earlier backup software.
