T23 to T40... Upgrade or not upgrade?! Advice needed!

#1 Post by red_dragon » Thu Oct 06, 2005 4:15 am

Decisions decisions. Here goes:
I have a T23, specs are as follows:
1.13GHz PIII Tualatin
30GB HDD 4200RPM
512MB PC133 RAM
14.1" SXGA+ Screen (backlight needs fixin, but pretend it's perfect)
I have a Atheros 5212A that I am putting in, just haven't gotten an antenna yet.

I can sell it and get a T40 for $7XX or so with following specs:
Centrino 1.4Ghz
14.1" XGA screen
512mb Ram
40GB 5400 RPM HD
Windows XP Pro
Phillips A/B/G Mini PCI Wireless Card
DVD / CDRW Drive
Floppy (USB)

So basically if I sell this T23 for $5XX the T40 would be a $2XX upgrade. What do I do....is it worth it? I love how solid my T23 is...and I love the SXGA+ screen. Your opinions are appreciated!!

I'd say it's worth it for $200, but you will notice the difference going from SXGA to XGA!

Yea unfortunately that's exactly what I'm debating on.......I'm also wondering about T40 build quality. I have to say I've had a T21 and this T23...build quality is just phenomenal.

T40's build quality is excellent. The 600X is still the king when it comes to build quality though, it was unbreakable!

Personally, I think that if you like SXGA+, you will hate XGA. I just moved from an XGA machine to an SXGA+ and although there are some minor issues with some programs, I just can't imagine having to go back to XGA.

Unless you are going with a SXGA+ T40 I would just stay with the T23.
Honestly, After using SXGA+ I found it very hard to use XGA.

yea it's not likely that I'll be moving to a SXGA+ T40. I think I'll just stick with my T23. I don't think I can use XGA happily anymore heh.

actually I landed myself a T40 with SXGA, 1.5GHz, 40GB, 768MB ram, Bluetooth, for $700. Sounds ok to me :)
