Smallest hard shell case?

#1 Post by vageetasjn » Thu Oct 06, 2005 6:57 am

I'm looking for a hard shell case for laptops that will fit a thinkpad (14.1" T42) and also my brother is interested in one that will fit a Dell X1. Any ideas?

Thanks

Here is what I bought. It fits my 14.1" T42 nicely. I bought mine at a Franklin Covey retail store at the end of last year. I think they are being closed out.

Ok, but 18" wide? This seems to be a bit larger than what I am looking for. I really want a basic shell with no frills or accessories that can be slipped into a backpack. Thanks for the reply.

The 1470 is what I got, with the foam set...

Says for laptops up to 15"---My t41/14.1 fits with 1" of foam top & bottom...[That would be top & bottom when case is held by grip]...

Would not advise this case for 15" laptops...[using foam/sleeve maybe]

Anybody try this one with the 'Sleeve'?

Ok, this one is also over 4" thick. You know those hard shell cases in which eyeglasses are stored? Those cases add hardly any size to the overall volume of the glasses and can then be easily put into a larger carrying bag. I want something similar, but for a laptop -- maybe something close to 2" thick. I may be asking too much, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

I use an aluminium hard case for my 14.1" T42. Externally it measures 17.5" x 12.5" x 2.0". It's a bit too wide but the upside is that I can put AC adapter into it too. I only wished it's in black color.

Have you checked out the Booq vyper? It's not *quite* a hard shell, but it's pretty close. Sounds exactly like what you're looking for. You can check it out here: http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=96
Best of luck!

The Booq one doesn't seem like it would help at all under pressure from books. Does anyone know which would be the best choice if protecting from pressure is the main concern?

I mentioned the glasses cases because they are very good at protecting against pressure. I don't think I have yet seen an equivalent in the field of laptops.

vageetasjn,

Did you end up having any luck finding a case? I am looking for about the same thing as you and was wondering if you found something that you liked. Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn't be too worried about pressure from books. I'm a first year university student and I've been dragging my T43 everywhere with me. All I use is a Booq Boa.XM and I protect my laptop perfectly. There's a "cage" of really hard foam that protects the laptop from compression. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about damaging a Thinkpad, they're built like a rock.
