ThinkVantage ?
I have D/L'd R&R v 3.0 a while back and I still have not found out what the small window on booting does. The one with the red ball going left and right in the middle of the screen. Does anybody know here ? I search in the .pdf pertaining to R&R 3.0 and did not find any explanation.
Thanks for any feedback.
JP.

R&R v 3.0 installs the ATMEL driver for the security chip. I know that before I installed R&R v 3.0, the ATMEL driver was not installed and the security chip was disabled.
ibmtcsd.exe (Client Security), tvtsched.exe (Scheduler), logmon.exe (Logger) and rrservice.exe (R&R) services are also started. There may be more, but that's all I see in a brief glance.

R&R revisited.
Good morning DKB.
Thanks for a quick reply.
R&R is a bit secretive in my opinion. You mentioned all that is started by default on booting a system. Good. What do they do or better still where can I find this out so I will not bother you again ?
I used the old version once before and it sure was handy, hats off to IBM and their programmers. This reminds me of the old standby of Ghost that I had used over and over to make backups of my systems.
Have a great day. JP.

I don't have too many answers for you.
I found out about the ATMEL driver because awhile back I saw it listed in the device driver matrix, but I couldn't find it in Device Manager. I installed Client Security Software 5.4 briefly to check it out. I noticed the ATMEL driver was then installed. When I uninstalled CSS 5.4, the ATMEL device and driver were gone from Device Manager. After installing R&R3, I checked and saw it there again.
I found out about logmon.exe by reading posts on these forums. The other services I found out by looking in Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del) and by looking at Start > Administrative Tools > Services. I just looked for listings I didn't remember seeing before. I looked at the path for the service, and the name of the service for clues.

R&R 3.0
Thank you DKB.
You seem to know your way around a Thinkpad. Thanks for the replies.
I will bug you again ( I promise ) if I can come up with more questions.

Ultra and R&R.
Good morning DKB.
Have you read the whole .pdf on R&R ( 175 pages ) and the .pdf on Ultra. ( Ultra 1 is 402 pages and Ultra 2 is 674 pages ) ?
It tells well how to instal this backup PRG but I never read how to get it going. The new version, v 3.0, also changed the procedure, it used to be in v 2.0 that you could access the Backup making process by the Access IBM key. It is not there anymore. I had to go to Program Files -> Thinkvantage -> and found three shortcuts, one will start the backup process. They sure kept it a secret. I just chanced on this. The .pdf now pertaning to v 3.0, is 175 pages. I got it printed yesterday and read through it last evening, no mention of how to make a backup at all. If you find the reference, do please, let me know.
I did it and it took 2.5 hours on my G-41 with a 2.53 MHz CPU.
