#1 Post by stevezasycho » Thu Oct 06, 2005 8:46 am

Can I use any of the Video out cables for the Thinkpads that are all over ebay w/ my 600x? I want to make sure before I buy.. There is one that is just an SVideo out, one with 2 connections.. Anyone that can let me know, I would appreciate it.. Thanks! 8)

Yes, e-bay has these Video out cables, but they are rather unique. See following link, and notice left side of cable. In the link, the seller says something about the 600E and 600X being different, but on IBM's site they list the same part number for both.

The standard 600E/X video out cable is not S-Video out, but rather just a plain old single RCA video out -- the one that GobJabbar provides a link to is one like this - with the special proprietary IBM plug on one side and a standard female RCA receptacle on the other.

The 770ED/X/Z also has a video out cable that some people have said works fine with teh 600E/X. The 770ED/X/Z video cable has the special proprietary IBM plug on one side and then has TWO out plugs:
a standard female RCA receptacle
a standard female S-Video/SVHS receptacle

I do not know if the S-Video component works on a 600E/X or not, but apparently it does. And I don't have any of the part numbers handy.

For someone else's experience with the 600X, check out the thread How to enable TV output on 600x with WinXP.

ANother question: Is the CPU in any laptop that is a P3 850 (or 750) an MMC-2? I am just wondering, seeing as how I have an old Sony Vaio layin around w/ the 750 MHz P3 SpeedStep.. All I would then need is the 600x speedstep board.. And if thats the case, a Parts notebook w/ the P3 could also be had on ebay.. Just wonderin is all!

Quick answer is no. Most PIII 850MHz chips are not MMC-2 chips, but a newer, incompatible format chip. In the case of the Sony Vaio, however, I think that it actually does use the MMC-2 -- or some models did at any rate. Maybe Sony has more info on their support site?
