Delete partition or not?

#1 Post by suratrat » Sat Oct 08, 2005 10:27 am

I have a T43p and there's is a partition on the hdd, problably used for a rescue. I would like to delete this partition and make my another partition bigger. I don't need this rescue partition because I use Acronis True Image to backup my system. But a friend told me that it is possible that the bios is also and that partition?

Can anyone tell if this is correct or if i just can delete that partition.

If you want to delete the partition disable the pre desktop area in BIOS under securtiy, use your partition tool to format that partition and recover the unused space. You might think about making yourself a set of Rescue and Recovery CD's just as a second level of assurance if your image of your drive should ever fail. This would allow you to set your system back to factory settings.

I made an image of my Windows partition. But not of the 4 Gb rescue partition. So I can delete this partition because i use Acronis to recover my system and i have a bootdisc.

Not trying to be pushy here, but it is a simple process to make the recovery cds, just use the access IBM button, create recovery media. If something catastrophic happens (which it sometimes do) you will not have to pay the $50 US to get your machine back to factory. I realize you can clean install XP from your own CD, but from reading the procedure it seems excruciatingly involved. But like I said this is just from my experience. :)

there is nothing important that you delecte or not.
but you have to 2 things first.
first create the recovery discs by using IBM Recovery Discs
second Restore system to factry, then backup system to Discs(CD) by using ghost or other
finally, you can delete partition.create any size partition as you like.and restore the system by using ghost from the IMG you backup.
I did just what I said above.everything are going fine.

The 'Create Rescue Media' burns a single CD for booting up and gaining access to the Rescue and Recovery workspace, or for restoring a backup you may have made previously with Rapid Restore Ultra or Rescue & Recovery.

The 'Create Recovery Discs' burns a 6-7 CD set for returning your laptop to the original 'Factory State'. It can be used on your existing or on a new hard drive. The software only allows you to make one copy of this set.

Since Lenovo is taking over, they are moving things around a bit and renaming them. Software and utilities such as the above were where Kycera mentioned, but if your laptop is new enough, it may be in the: Start > ThinkVantage folder instead, under 'Create Recovery Media'.

So I made 5+1 recovery cd's using "start-ibm access-create recovery cd" from my brand new X41.

Now I can go to bios "un-hide" protected 4gig partition, delete it,
add it to the 35ish gig hdd, to have all 40gig (probably 39ish gig)
than use the "fresh xp install" tutorial from the 4saad.com and format the drive,
Install xpp from my xpp cd (purchased for another system) but use the key found under the x41 and have all the 40 gig hard drive to play with, than install the files i feel necessary, such as finger p.r., active protection vs.. from the i835! and ibm tools backed up cd's...
is it??

than when selling the x41 i can use the recovery cd's and put it back to factoy settings, which will , by itself, create the hidden partition and all , is it?
