Does lmsensors still kill the laptop?

I've read reports about lmsensors killing IBM thinkpads. I know those reports are quite old, but do they still apply to current thinkpads?

The ThinkWiki suggests that it doesn't work at all with ThinkPads, so you might as well use ACPI to get roughly the same info that lmsensors would provide.
