#1 Post by nowstime » Sat Jul 03, 2004 11:03 am

Hi~

I finally got my laptop...Finally~~~

Thanks to G-man, and Bill for their help...Sorry for the numerous emails...

I got the T41p from Ebay...

$1950 shipped...(got it today via Fedex priority overnight Saturday delivery)...Brand New Sealed...Warranty till 2007 June...

Great...laptop...No dead pixels...keyboard works fine...no werid noise yet...

By the way...

How can I transfer files between two laptops?...I have to transfer tons of files from my Sony TR1A...

Some Questions as always...

1. What's the first thing to do? Update BIOS and drivers?
2. What program slow downs the start up?
3. Anything to check?

thank you so much for the help...I will do my best to help this forum...

You've got a number of options. Probably the easiest is to use the Files and Setting Transfer wizard that is a part of XP. On a new install, it usually shows up in the start menu. Or you can hit it throught Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools.

This is a wizard that will walk you through transfering files - either using a direct cable connection or on a wizard. Actually works pretty good.

Otherwise, it's just burn everything to CD and copy over.

I'm sure there are FTP solutions as well - but that is where I would start.

If you have a hub and ethernet cables, then just go ahead and network them together. If you don't have those things and have to transfer a LOT of data, get a "crossover cable" (a special kind of ethernet cable) and connect the computers directly together.

As was suggested, if it is just a couple of gig's of data - it's probably easiest to just burn CD's if that is an option.

Glad it turned out well. Welcome to the club!

Updates for your TP: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46258

Update the Embedded Controller Program first, then the BIOS, ACPI Power Management, ATI driver, and if you use wireless then the wireless driver (first you have to uninstall Access Connections), and utilities.

For file transfer you can also use infrared, but connecting the two TPs via ethernet cable is the fastest.

By the way, you don't need a crossover cable - the port is autosensing (supposedly this is part of the gigabit spec, from what I've heard).
