The main problem is volume.....an I've turned up the system volume and everything. If you are laying on the couch, with the t.v or anything else going on; wife cooking, fire crackling-- anything (and at a very minimal level) you simply can't hear anything throught the onboard speakers. Then try this at the park!

I don't know, maybe my ears are just going after years of blasting music in my (bachelor) pad and my car!

i agree on this one. i find it very unpleasant when watching xvid movies with sound compressed with ac3 because of the low volume of the speakers. even if i maximize the sound output in ac3 config i have to be in a quiet place to hear well.

I voted for a cooler motherboard and CPU because my T43p really seems to be a bit power hungry and hot.

However, I also agree that better speakers in a laptop would be a very nice thing. I think a video in port, DVI, digital audio and FireWire output would be nice additions also (not sure where fit them, though, :D - perhaps on a small very portable dongle?).

The biggest enhancement I would like to see is in software, though, and that's not even model dependent. The power management software I had for my Toshiba Tecra S1 gave me all the options I needed (e.g. making up to 8 hours on battery possible) so I never went looking for something like Notebook Hardware Control, which gives you almost everything you want (short of fan control that program is really cool). I love my T43p (primarily for its screen), but with regards to power management software I felt going from Toshiba to IBM was a downgrade.

14.1 1400x1050 Flexview with stepless brightness adjustment (Like on the old Thinkpads)
Current speaker format, but with better quality, or same (Pretty good on my T43.)
Multiple level battery display (They have RGB LEDs on a same die. Easy to implement). Green = 100%, Green Dim = 75%, Green/Orange = 50%, Orange = 25%, Red = 10% or less. Cycling green from dim to bright in stepped patern = Charge. (That or give us a 760 style LCD with backlight, that technically can fit between volume and power buttons.)
Same keyborad quality
Controlable fan through intergrated software
X600 somewhere?
4:3 ratio.
In every color, as long as its black.
Same T4x body shape.
3 USB ports (Theres spaces where you can add a 3rd and keep the original layout, even on a 14.1 inch body.)
DVD-RAM support on multiburners kept.
Luxeon 1 thats underdriven instead of current keyboard LED. Or even a Nicha LED instead.
Make the keyboard less easily turn shiny.
Restart button. We can fit it near the power button.
Floppy Ultrabay (I'm desperate enough to request for one)

I'd like them to start using more powerful graphics solutions, but apparently they ain't gonna go above middle-range.

14.1 with Flexview would also be a nice option. Even though I'm perfectly comfortable with 15", and gaming / movie watching is better on a bigger screen.

Firewire and more USB ports. 3 is nice, but 4 or even 6 would be better.

More USB and Firewire would be nice, but I think 3 is the maximum I would go for. If you are travelling, I see no to little reason to have more than 3 USB ports. Mouse, Memory Stick, plus something else is the most I have ever used whilst travelling. 6 is a rather large number to put on a mobile Laptop like the T Series; even for the G Series, 6 would be excessive. As for graphics, *shrugs*, you simply put a more powerful card in there. I do caution, however, that even though a 256MB would be useful, a 64MB or 128MB suits just about everything perfectly fine. I do molecular rendering, tons of *.mpegs and *.tiff stacks, as well as run all of these at the same time; no problems here. Neither have I noticed any issues with gaming. As long as IBM/Lenovo keep putting in modern Video Cards, I think it will be fine. Maybe some more development of System Tools and Utilities, the are already tons of useful utilities; perhaps a Console System where you could quickly perform low level commands? Power Managemnet also seems to be a strong point here as well, I can say that the Thinkpads I have used have all had excellent power management applications.

Restart button? Why would a system need a button to go through a restart cycle? All you have to do is reboot the OS you are using or, at the very most, press the button...then press it again. A DVI port would be a good idea, while you can get this with a port replicator or base; I would like it a bit more mobile and actually built into the system.

Also, keep everything else the same; Thinkpads are pretty [censored] near perfect as it is. :D

When your system freezes
10 seconds is annoying
Unplugging AC and battery is also annoying and can hurt harddrives

Just hold the power button down for several seconds, then the laptop should shut off. Then press the power button again to restart. I do this for the occasional freeze.

Yeah..I agree with most of the suggestions to improve the breed...

How about putting a 2nd traack point between the G H Y key's along with the track point that's between the G H B key's.. to accomodate people with bigger hands..or it can be assigned to do different tasks...

This feature Is uniec to thkpd ... Some of my my associates can't seem to grasp the concept of this lil joy stick..

For me it's about eye hand coordination. (like flying a jet fighter)...or..(F1 Car)..

My hands never leave the keyboard....It's so ergo-efficiant... It takes a lil practice... I have mine setup for the lightest touch....However I want it to be quicker...(faster then human reflex). So I can ajust it accordingly, I like the mushroom cap the best, with a lil paper stuffed up in the cap ..so as to elevate it a bit above the keys...

I also use mouse & touchpad.....gotta be omni dexterous...lol...
