How can I fix a broken screen clip?

#1 Post by jnumiker » Tue Oct 11, 2005 8:19 am

One of the two clips that keep my X22 closed (the one on the left) was broken off somehow by my girlfriend. The plastic bit that extends down into the hole on the palm-rest section snapped clean off. Things are not totally lost as I still have the clip on the right but I would like to fix the clip if I can.

Can I get a replacement clip from IBM or somebody else? If so, what is the part # and how should I go about it? How hard do you think it would be to take off the screen bezel and install it if I could get my hands on one?

I would appreciate any help with this.

Jason

This manual is your friend, if you own an X2x: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... 4p2975.pdf

Read that. Love it. (That reminds me, new HDD means new download of it...)

It tells you all of the replacement parts and their FRU numbers for any X2x, and how to replace them.
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)
Past: T61p 15.0" QXGA, T60p 15.0" QXGA, X61 Tablet SXGA+, R51e 14.1" XGA, X21

LCD Rear Cover Kit??

#3 Post by jnumiker » Tue Oct 11, 2005 10:49 am

After looking at that document it looks like the clips are part of the "LCD Rear Cover Kit" FRU 26P9820. I was quite surprised to see that IBM sells it for $36.50 considering that would include the nice metal backing of the screen. My back has become a bit scratched and blemished so I am happy to order this as it will fix that too. In the same vein my palm rest section, or Keyboard Bezel in IBM terms, is a bit blemished and I see you can get that for $33 from IBM so I may order that too as long as I am ordering parts and taking the laptop apart. I am very impressed with the prices IBM is charging for their spare parts as compared to other vendors like Dell. I'll let you guys know if things work out when I get it. Thanks again for the replies.

the parts are fine - I wanted a bluetooth label strip for below the monitor. In the uk it was 2ukp - but 20ukp (35usd!) for postage!

They wouldnt even put it in an envelope for me!

Screw Caps???

#5 Post by jnumiker » Wed Oct 12, 2005 3:19 pm

I got my part and it worked out beautifully except when I went to put the screw caps back on. They are just stickers and many wouldn't stay - especially the two quazi-rectangular ones on the top of the sides. I am surprised that the lcd back assembly didn't come with them. Not sure whether I am going to spend a bunch of money ordering just a couple of stickers from IBM... anybody know a place/way to get the screw caps cheap or find some material to make my own?
