Rescue and Recovery 3 Installation Error!

#1 Post by bluejamul » Wed Oct 12, 2005 9:05 pm

I don't know what I did but I am getting the following error when trying to install R&R 3.

Error 1402 Could not open key.
(something about insufficient rights)

The offending key is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0\CLSID

This is the key data:
Name=Default
Type=REG_SZ
Data={88d969c0-f192-11d4-a65f-0040963251e5}

There don't appear to be any special properties set for it. I am the only user (administrator).

Any suggestions or should I just nuke the whole thing and go with Acronis TrueImage?

Thanks to all for your helpful advice.

After setting a system restore point, try my suggestion in the following thread.

After reading the thread, I found that I have "full control" over that key already. So it must be something else. Did your suggestion work for you?
Thanks.

I had version 1 of Rescue and Recovery installed when I decided to upgrade to version 3. I downloaded version 3 from IBM's site, then I uninstalled version 1. I rebooted, then installed version 3. I had no problems.

Here is my experience installing R&R 3.

I took a look at my registry for the same key. Both Administrators and System have full control to this key and subkeys. Creator Owner has full control of subkeys only. I did a search for the key data {88d969c0-f192-11d4-a65f-0040963251e5} and found it in several locations, in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Do a search in your registry and see if Administrators and System both have full control.
