Weight Saving/plastic bezel for Ultrabay Slim T4X

#1 Post by nelson_vladimir » Thu Oct 13, 2005 2:22 pm

Hi,

I got my laptop secondhand, and it doesnt come with a weight saving device or plastic bezel to cover the CD Rom bay when empty, wondering if original T4X comes with plastic bezels?

Regards,
Nelson

I don't think that thing exists (due to the thinness of the laptop), the closest thing is the 2nd hard drive adapter (empty).

My T42 did not come with one, but they can be had. Google the part number 13N5108

EDIT - I posted this before I realized that someone got there before me... Apologies for wasting bandwidth.

The part you want is IBM part number 13N5108. A Google search will find it on sale in various places, for example:

Wow, you learn something new every day.
Why doesn't IBM not include it with the laptop? The Sony's, Toshiba, Asus etc etc all include this little but usefull piece with the laptops.

I asked the customer service guy that when I ordered the blank bezel, and he said "I have no idea, it should be included."

It's a complete rip off, too, since shipping costs more than the item. But there isnt anything you can do about it. I tried to combine it with a regular order to make it worth it, but since the bezel is from IBM PARTS instead of the accessory dept, you can't order it with regular accessories. But since I really needed the bezel, I paid the twenty-something bucks for the 1/2 cent piece of plastic. Unacceptable in my book.

You don't really save a lot of weight with the bezel do you? I mean my drive isn't that heavy at all.

Yep, I had the same problem with the bezel.
$20 for a piece of plastic, woth 5cts, is the ultimate rip-off.
Not even Apple does dare such a act.

I removed the drive (200 grams weight) and used black tape to seal the hole. Looks good, works good and costs almost nothing.

Just my 2 cts.

I got the ultrabay dummy plug (blank bezel), and have never ever used it. It might shave off a few grams, but the usefulness/weight ratio is exactly zero 8)

99% of the time I'm having the 2nd hdd plugged in.
