Which cable do I need to connect printer to Port Replicator2

#1 Post by Michael1980 » Fri Oct 14, 2005 5:37 pm

Hi,
I was wondering on how to connect my printer to Port Replicator II.
The printer has that standard (not to me!) long connector, but I don't know where on the Port Replicator II to connect it to. :) Nightmare.

Does it go to the "long" connection (similar length to the one on the printer) or is it the shorter one? Need to know because I have to buy the cable.

Never dealt with legacy ports before, a bit confused :(
Any advice would be very appreciated.

Regards.

The parallel port connector (for the printer) on the Port Replicator II should be a 25-pin female connector. If the color coding is the same as on my T42, it would be a magenta (reddish/purplish) color.

Thanks for the answer :)
And you are right, it is magenta (or pink as I call it).

Hi, I have a follow-up question. Now that I have connected all the cables, what is the name of the port in Windows. My printer is set to USB now, should I set it LPT2 (since I figure LPT1 is the parallel port on the laptop itself)?

I am not familiar with replicators, but if you are using the parallel connection set your print driver to lpt1, apply etc. Print test page from the general tab on the driver to test. If you have a problem, reboot your computer and use the plug and play.

LPT1 is indeed correct. The port replicator... replicates the port, so it's LPT1 on both the ThinkPad's connector and on the replicator.
