Problems with speed

Hi to all. I'm new to this forum because i recently purchased a thinkpad t43 with ati's x300 64 mb graphics card. The problem i have is that is that after a day of work i decided to play a new game - fifa 06. i installed everything, the menu's worked just fine but just when i launched the game, it ran something like 5 times faster the normal speed. Can this problem be driver related or do i have to make some voltage ajustments to the gpu or cpu?
