#1 Post by thedonnybrook » Sat Oct 15, 2005 10:20 pm

every once in a while i have this problme where the mouse pointer wanders across the screen and i have to fight for control of it with my touchpad or pointer. as far as i know the mouse driver is up to date. i had this same problem with my dells. i run 1.5 gig ram, and a 2 gig paging file, anyone know how i can fix this?

Using the Trackpoint much? This is a known "feature" (some would call it an annoyance, but it's definitely not a defect), where if you are inadvertently resting your finger on the trackpoint it will attempt to automatically calibrate for the constant light pressure...thus, when you remove the pressure, it will shift over just a bit to recompensate for the loss. I thought this was annoying at first, but then I realized that I basically wasn't using it properly. You should only touch it when moving the cursor, and make quick, jerky movements of the cursor as opposed to a long, slow force.

it's kind of necessary because the trackpoint constantly monitors itself for recalibration, it seems like the "center" drifts, and it's probably better that it automatically does it, as opposed to forcing you to go to a control menu option to do it like the old school joysticks.
