fresh winxp tablet for x41T

#1 Post by Dragonfly79 » Sun Oct 16, 2005 5:57 pm

I am wondering if someone has done this before using this guide? I did the fresh install on my t42 and it works beautifully and I am hoping to do the same to the x41t because it has a slower hard drive so any unneeded programs ie norton AV would help it speed up boot time. If no one has done this I like to post some questions I have before I wipe everything.

1. My computer says it comes with win xp tablet with sp2. Do i still need to download the sp2 for win xp and if yes then can I still use the one posted on the guide?

2. Since the x41t does not come with any cd or dvd drive; when I make the win xp boot up cd can I simply make the computer boot through the external usb cd drive?

thank you and any help would be much appreciated.

If your ThinkPad comes with Win XP Tablet with SP2, and you use this to make your Windows install CD, there is no reason to worry about SP2. I do believe that the Tablet edition is different than the normal version, so you would want to make your Windows install CD from the Tablet version.

I think your answer to question 2 is yes. You can test this by booting up from any bootable CD. You may need to set the boot order in the BIOS setup menu to have the USB drive boot before your hard drive.

Gomjabbar,
regarding the SP2 for win xp tablet; I checked out the microsoft website and I can't tell if the SP2 is an update that works for all platforms of windows ie xp pro, home, and tablet. It doesn't really specify and the link I got to download teh sp2 is here: http://www.4saad.com/WhatsNew/Fresh_XP_ ... /Step2.htm
If there is the different sp2 for tablet then where do I go about finding it because I tried searching the MS website and its gotten me nowhere.

APPLIES TO

You can download SP2 for XP here.
