do NOT install any device driver from Windows Update. I tried and it completely trashed my system. others have had similar experiences, so just stick to the drivers available using the Lenovo Software Installer.

I ran ThinkVantage Software Installer this morning (which I usually do every 2 or 3 days), and I did see a new UltraNav driver. I downloaded and installed the driver. Then I went to the driver matrix page and found an updated SoundMAX Audio driver that came out a couple of weeks ago. I downloaded and installed that driver as well. Next I went to Windows Update. I saw nothing new that hasn't been there for several weeks. Only the Lenovo PM driver and an Intel 1000 ethernet adapter driver (name approximate). I have a T42, Win XP Pro.

Yes, I also do not recommend installing hardware drivers available on Microsoft Update.

It has to do with power management. It used to be called: "IBM ThinkPad Power Management Driver". I guess Lenovo wanted their name on it. I don't know what the upgrade does if anything, other than change the name. But until it shows up in Software Installer or on the driver matrix page, I am leaving it alone.

When I ran the TV Software Installer, the new audio driver did not show up as an available update. Kind of shook my faith in the Software Installer. Anyway, has the audio update been working well in your system?

The new UltraNav driver fixes the problem where the toupad only works every other time you touch it, if the mouse motion is disabled. I thought I was going crazy when I couldn't get the touchpad to work right...

I recently ran the second most recent version of Software Installer and it said it would not run until it was updated. Fair enough. Updated and ran the newest version of software installer and it said "nothing to do".

Now, occasionally (and this was one of the occasions) I check the website, and there was a new version of Audio driver as pae77 noted. I downloaded that and installed it, and of course, Software Installer now recognizes it was installed, but nothing new.

Then Monday night, it found UltraNav and I installed that. Strange, in that Software Installer has found everything for me all the time except for that one Audio driver. We'll have to wait and see if anything else gets by it.

A month or two ago I found that Software Installer missed one package for me. I think is was an update for DLA, but I don't remember for sure. Then today it was the Audio Driver.
