Hi All,
I just received my x41T last friday and have been playing around with it. I like to offer some insight for those who are still on the fence as to whether the hard drive is too slow and affect the performace.
I noticed what others pointed out that the slow hard drive does affect the boot time. My t42 with 2.1 ghz process booted windows in ~30 secs while this machine takes around 1.5 mins. This is a lot but I found that when it did boot I don't notice the speed lag. What I mean is if you are going to surf the internet, use MS Onenote ( which I mainly use for note taking) it will be no problem at all. Also I only have 512 mb ram so far and I have all the included programs running at startup ( probably why it takes forever to boot).
One way I found around the long boot time is to hibernate it. It takes 15-20sec to get out of hibernation, so for those who will be turning it on and off after classes this is a much more efficient process.
The quality of this machine is classic thinkpad: great keyboard, screen resolution and well made component.
I must say that this machine is not made for gaming, or graphic intensive applications. But if you use it as a note taking tablet pc, you will not be disappointed. I'm constantly finding new uses for it everyday and the 8 cell battery last 5.5-6 hrs as advertised .
hope this helps the folks who are undecided. Oh by the way I have the X41T-18666TU.

Hey, I agree with you. I got my X41t last week and it's great. It does take long to boot, but once in windows its not bad at all. Also, notetaking is a lot more easy and realistic than I thought it would be. Amazing for taking notes in class.
Also the build quality is so much higher than any other notebook i've seen. It can't be beat.
