Mounting the laptop on ___ (wall, desk mount, etc'), How?

#1 Post by jhonyl » Tue Oct 18, 2005 5:06 pm

Hi,

I have a T42, and I wonder how is it mounted to a docking station, and if this kind of mounting is strong enough, and if I can mount it in the same way to a wall or other things without being worried that it would fall off. Does the mounting lock in some way so it is not possible to remove without moving something to unlock it?

To a WALL? :? Why the heck would you want to do that to a laptop?

No, there is no way (not factory anyway) to mount the docks onto a wall. Then I'm not sure if the connection between the tp and the dock would be strong enough to keep the tp in place once docked (even though it does "lock" into place.

Thanks grimmster :)

I don't have a dock/docking station. If I had a docking station I could have seen for myself the way it attaches to the laptop. I want to dock the laptop onto other things.

Any news? I was also wondering if I could mount a minidock or port replicator to the side of my desk (too little desk space!). It'd be nice to know if this is possible before buying a dock!

The only other relevent thread I could find was this one:

I remember Compaq used to have a vertical docking option for the Armada laptops which was really convenient. As far as I know there's no real way to do that with a tp dock. I suppose you could build yourself a little shelf on the side for it to rest on vertically. The other option is to get something that raises your monitor and put the tp and dock+tp under it. IBM sells a little stand with a drawer underneath for just that purpose, but it's probably more expensive than it should be.

I think the docks are meant to work one way ... desktop. Partly, they're made to tilt your laptop to a more comfy typing position. ;)
