Transcend 1GB DDR2 Memory Opinions

#1 Post by mrdeucie » Tue Oct 18, 2005 9:30 pm

I found this on one of the deal sites I frequent and thought I would share the information with my fellow thinkpad owners. I was waiting for a good price on a 1GB stick of RAM and this seems great. The only thing is that it isn't the premium stuff.

I believe that the prosumer photographers like this brand for flash memory. Any opinions on their RAM memory?

great price. i've never heard of Transcent before though.

A store near me sells the same specs, but Kingsmax brand, for $119 CAD ($100 USD). I'm still looking around though.

I'm not sure if it would be cost efficient to buy from Newegg as a Canadian because of brokerage charges you may incur but Newegg also sells Kingston, Crucial, and Corsair memory for decent prices. Although, they are the lower grade of RAM like the Transcend. It seems that most of the RAM in this price range US $90 - $120 have the same specs.

Transcend is an excellent brand. I have three of their 1 GB modules installed in three different X41s and all are running perfectly.

Billy thanks for responding. I actually did read your thread while going through old posts on the board. Good to see that the RAM is working well in your thinkpads.

Hi all,

I have laid my hands finally on my X41 (252654U) yesterday, which I actually ordered and paid for in july (yes July), and as I am in that topic at the same time I have bought the exact same transcend 1gig ram.

So my question is: I installed the RAM, and, nothing happened.

What I mean is, I pressed the power button, the status indicator lights goes on, and finally with the power light on and the blank screen (actually it is black) it does not boot up.

What can I do, is it that the one I purchased is lemon, or is there a tweak that I have to do in the bios! before installing (never heard or seen it in forum)

Am I unlucky, after waiting so long, even tp is working without any dead pixels or so, when one thing goes wrong its effect is multiplied

Have you tried reseating the RAM and trying to boot up again?

Sure. We're all here to help. I don't know any better but if I were in your shoes I would return the stick for another.
