HDD status in sleep mode

#1 Post by RoadHazard » Wed Oct 19, 2005 12:14 am

Does anyone know if the HDD is parked in sleep mode? I usually close the lid so the notebook goes into sleep mode while commuting. Is it a better idea to hibernate instead? My Thinkpad is T40p so it doesn't have the active protection like the newer models.
-T42p 2374-D03 with Pentium M 765 2.1GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 7k60 HDD, IBM 802.11 a/b/g II wireless, 6-cell battery, and no touchpad
-X61 Tablet 7764-CTO with 3GB RAM and 7k200 HDD
-W500 4061-CTO all stock

Standby mode When the computer enters standby mode, the following events occur in addition to what occurs in screen blank mode:
1.The LCD is powered off.
2.The hard disk drive is powered off.
3.The CPU stops.

this doesn't really answer the question. I had one technician tell me to never leave my computer on standby because the hard drive wasn't as properly parked as it is after a hibernate, but I am skeptical until I see some proof either way.
