Bad Product Recovery CD - Need File Please!

#1 Post by hallkbrdz » Wed Oct 19, 2005 5:55 am

I have been trying to recover my T40 for over a week now. Somehow a password was set on the recovery that I don't know, so I ordered a set of product recovery disks. Since I didn't want to overwrite the original HDD, I ordered a new one, with the idea of copying the data back using the slimdrive adaptor.

Now the "fun" begins. I receive the PR CD's, and start to install them. Disk 1, no problem. Disk 2 - Error 1802: Image file is invalid or corrupted. This is not good. I try again, same thing. I try and copy the disk using two other computers, both cannot read the disk without an error on file CM1PBUS.002 (the main backup file on the CD). Frustrated, I order a new set of CD's. Same thing with this set.

I call IBM (or whatever) help and get someone in Atlanta. He has me remove the second memory SIMM (as if that has anything to do with it). For whatever reason, it does change the % of where it fails, but it still fails (as expected). I told him I think they have a bad batch of CD's. He explains that this is impossible since they are burned and then sent (which I don't believe). At this point we get cut off on the phone, of course with no way to get back to the same person. Of course, you can't just DL PR CD images or files from IBM. That would be customer service. Oracle CD's I can dl all day, but not something specific to something I already paid for!

So - does anyone have a GOOD PR CD for a 2373? All I need is the CM1PBUS.002 file and I will burn my own CD! If you have an FTP site great, if you need one, If you send me email I will get you the address and pw of one.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I give up on IBM tech support. After ordering a 3RD set of CD's and specifically asking them (and telling them how to do it) to make sure the 2nd CD was readable, they again sent me a bad set. Idiots!

In the mean time I had installed Ubuntu linux (before seeing the "how to make a XP install from what's on the hard drive) on another HDD, and am so pleased with it that I think now I only want the XP to install on VMWARE for those few things I have to run on windows.

Thanks for looking anywho...
