Bluetooth button on X30?

#1 Post by xtrem » Wed Oct 19, 2005 8:40 am

I just installed a bluetooth daughter card and WiFi mini-pci card on my X30. A bit of a hassle to get the antennas in place but it worked.

Everything works great and I close up the machine. Then i realized that my X30 doesn't have the plastic on/off button under the LCD for the bluetooth. The switch itself is there under the plastic and it works.

I can't find the part number for the plastic plate with the on/off button. I called IBM and they said that he couldn't see the part number without a model number which had BT installed from factory. How i'm gonna find that?

Anyone know which partnumber I need, or have a full modelnumber for a X30 with bluetooth installed from factory?

Try to install the Hotkey driver and Access Connection. Then try to hit Fn+F5 and see if you can turn the Bluetooth adapter on/off.
The X31 has no hardware button for Bluetooth. Instead it uses a software control (Fn+F5).

But my X30 HAS the hardware button, behind the plastic under the LCD.
It seems that X30 has the button from start but only a few has the plastic plate that give you the ability to acctually press the button.

If I remove the plastic frame around the LCD I can press the button and bluetooth works. But I need the partnumber for the new plastic frame that has the plastic with a button.

FN +F5 does nothing, even with every driver and software installed

Too bad Fn+F5 doesn't work on the X30. Then you need to get the part. Have you had a look at the X30 Hardware Maintenance Manual?

Yes, but there is no closeup picture of the plastic parts under LCD.

And IBM Support could only help me if I knew the part# or I knew the model + type# for a X30 that has the acctual button.

Then it's easy: just have a look at tawbook.pdf and you will see which X30's had Bluetooth.

Thanks. But still it took IBM support 30 minutes to find the "correct" part when I called them again.

Now lets hope it's the right one.

Thanks!

Dear Mike

Dont worry. Please see the letter from our customer feedback

"i found a clever solution on the Fn+F5-problem.
i installed the BDC01-software downloaded from ibm.com
In the installation-folder, there was a subfolder named Tools. here i found a file named bdcpwr.exe. by running it the BT-card will power on via a command-prompt-program.. stupid solution!

Anyways, i created a shortcut to this file and under the properties, i make a hotkey and chose F5. made it start minimized so i wouldnt see the windows pop up."

Thanks! I'll try that.

Any solution to make Fn+F5 work for both WLAN and BT?

But I'm still mad at IBM SUpport for selling me the wrong part. There must be a part for the X30...
