formating harddrive, reinstalling a new OS

#1 Post by Troels » Wed Oct 19, 2005 9:51 am

Hi,

Just to make sure.
I have got the T42 that came with a preinstalled winxp home. I don't need it has i just bought a student version of Windows XP (not just the upgrade, the full SP2 version, discounted by our local student's bookstore). So is this the right steps to make:

1. Disable the system recovery feature from IBM first: BIOS->Security->Predestop Area, disable it.

2. Boot up Windows XP from the installation CD and just format the harddrive and install Xp again as usual.

Is this correct ?

The reason why i want to re-install is that i want the danish version of XP, not english. And now, please don't tell me i was allowed to use the license key at the bottom of the laptop for the new xp :?

TIA.

I read the sticky at the top of this forum, but even if i create a recovery disk it will STILL be in english.
I'm just very unsure at what to do in order to not destroy anything.

Just a thought, if you leave the predesktop area in tact, you will have something to fall back on in the event of a catastrophe. There is a post somewhere in this forum of how to do a clean install of windows. Very time consuming, but good luck.
