has anyone heard about these? I am being offered this as the supplier is having problems (wait time 2 months) getting me a Hitachi 60GB 7200RPM for my T40

I agree. It's likely a rebranded 7k60. Several brands do this. I don't know if the firmware is any different, or if there are any other mods.
