R32 without built-in antenna? Could it be so?

#1 Post by 3EK » Wed Oct 19, 2005 12:57 pm

I noticed that mini pci wireless lan cards have 2 connectors for antenna. My R32 has no such antenna output under the cover for mini pci device.. Do I need to buy & install antenna manually or just to put wifi card inside and that's it?

Pls advise.

Yeah, I fixed a refubished R31 for a guy, and he had no mini PCI card installed, he was useing one of those PCMACA cards
They are more exspensive then the PCMACA. simply becasue they are
"internal" so if you purchased a refubished laptop, then they may have removed it, to make more money, so they could offer something like
"upgrade to a wireless card" when it should already have one.

My R32 did not get built with one. Just as well, I like the 802.11 a/b/g PCMCIA that I have now that wouldn't be used if I had the internal.

The R30 and R31 either had wireless, or they didn't.

Some of the R32 models were "wireless upgradable", meaning they had the antennas, but no wireless card. Some, of course, shipped with both. Others simply didn't have either. If it (at least) had the antennas, there would be those white wireless stripes on the side of the lcd panel, up near the latches.

Best bet is to buy a wireless pcmcia card. Some people have had success adding the antennas, but it's not for the faint of heart.
