weird power quirk

#1 Post by krazykritter » Wed Oct 19, 2005 1:07 pm

I originally posted this over in the R, A, G Series but got only one response.
I just got this laptop and I've seen it happen a couple times. When I've plugged in the power cord the screen will dim to the point it's not lit at all and won't come back to normal until I reboot but I can barely see the screen to do that. On two other occasions the laptop has actually completely shut off as soon as I plugged in the power cord.

I've updated all drivers from IBM and Win XP SP2 with all available updates. There are no hardware conflicts or unexplained errors.

Any ideas?
Since posting that I just happen to supporting someone with a X40 model that did the exact same thing while she was on the phone with me. SO while I suppose it could be a power inverter problem as as slagmi suggested in the original thread. However, I'm more inclined to think it's a power management bug because it is so intermittent.
