wireless question

#1 Post by om3gaboost » Fri Oct 21, 2005 4:27 pm

This is a stupid question, but I realy don't know what to do. I was wondering how do you log onto a network that has a password on the router? When I am at work, I can't seem to log on to a network even though I know the password. I don't even know where to enter the password. My system is T43 2678-D3U and I use access connections to log on.

Open the network connections folder, right click on your wireless connections, select view available wireless networks, your company network should be visible in the list, if not select "refresh network list".
Select your company network, select the connect button, if it is password protected a box will appear asking you to type in the password.

For Access Connections setup, open Access Connections, choose Manage Location Profiles... > New..., and follow wizard.
1. Name network
2. Choose: Wireless LAN [802.11]
3. Leave box empty unless your need VPN
4. (not sure how this step works - can skip)
Next > Next
5. Choose both radio buttons for obtaining addresses automatically
Next > Next
6. Click on Find Network. Then choose Wireless Security type from the drop-down box (you'll have to find out which method is used by the router). The Advanced button allows you to choose power vs battery life.
Next
7. Verify 'Access Point Authentication' and 'Data Encryption' settings are correct for your router. Type password into box.
Now just follow the wizard for the rest of the settings.
