How to permanently remove a device driver?

#1 Post by jay_snyder67 » Sun Oct 23, 2005 9:36 pm

I installed the generic intel device driver for the 2200bg wireless card in my thinkpad. This driver doesn't work correctly with the Fn-F5 control, or the indicated LED on the display. Now if I install the IBM provided driver, I can't sem to get it to work.

Thanks,
Jay

OK, try this.

Go to this site and download the driver for your Intel 2200bg adapter. After downloading, double-click on the file 1ywc38ww.exe in C:\DownloadDirector\ and follow the installation wizard.

Now go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. Uninstall any drivers or software that may be associated with the Intel 2200bg. This includes (IBM or ThinkVantage) Access Connections.

Next go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. Right-click on any device that has a yellow exclaimation mark or red X and uninstall it. Also look under Network adapters and uninstall any Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection.

Finally go to the directory C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANCX2A\ and double-click on SETUP.EXE to install the Intel drivers and software.

Here is the site for ThinkVantage Access Connections if you want that too. Reboot after installing the Intel driver and software above, before installing Access Connections. The method for installing is just like for the Intel driver. The first file to execute in C:\DownloadDirector is 78cn12ww.exe. Then execute Setup.exe located in C:\DRIVERS\W2K\ACCON\.
