New T42P question

#1 Post by c888a » Mon Jul 05, 2004 3:23 pm

Just received my 2373GUV T42P with 14" display, really nice. Two questions: when I installed the MS intellimouse software 5.0 to enable the "double click" function for the my MS notebook mouse wheel, it uninstalled the existing mouse software and disabled the trackpoint and touch pad. Any soultion to it? Also, what is the function of the blue one in the middle of the trackpoint buttons?

dont know about that driver, i use a MS optical mouse and didnt ever install drivers for it (i dont need any special functionality from it). However, that "blue button" to which you refer is the famous scroll button...press it while moving the trackpoint up/down and you can scroll (as long as that feature isnt disabled). I would think a fellow Thinkpad owner would know such a thing!

c888a, I've run into the same thing with my X21's trackpoint and mouse software.
But only when using the mouse PS/2 plug.
I Reinstalled the trackpoint drivers and installed the mouse via USB, and only then did I have complete mouse properties to customize buttons - if that is what you already did, then I've been of no help.

I also couldn't get my Logitech bluetooth mouse properties working on a new T42 (mouse worked fine, just couldnt customize the buttons) - I didnt try too hard though, because I had to RMA it and am waiting for my next one.
I installed the logitech drivers without any difficulties, but I still did not have the complete Logitech mouse properties. Trackpoint and touchpad were unaffected.

Hmm, haven't tried this on my new T42p yet (my KTU is waiting at home for me to come back at the end of my work day ;-) However, on my old T30 the goddam Logitech thing would only ever work if I was using the Logitech BT dongle (connected via USB - kind of defeats the purpose of a BT mouse and integrated USB if you ask me but this seems too hard for the Logitech guys to realize).

I imagine that this will still be the case with the T42 (despite the fact that the original IBM BT drivers will hopefully be more up-to-date and won't require any hacks)...

My experience is that the Logitech customization applet doesn't bring too much additional functionality anyway (although it would certainly be nice to be able some of these additional buttons). At least the browser back/forward buttons are working w/o having to resort to the applet.

csarrasin, thanks for the info.
The good news is that you don't need the USB BT dongle to use the Logitech BT mouse on the T42.
The mouse even worked with drivers that were onboard.
I had to plug in the USB BT dongle in order to use the Logitech cd-rom, and then the Logitech drivers were installed.
The mouse was more responsive with the Logitech drivers, but still no ability to customize the buttons.
But, like you said, at least all the buttons work with their default functionality (I like to change a couple of them, but no biggie I suppose).

Hi, guys, I have found the solution to this one. I bought a Microsoft Notebook Optical mouse and installed the Intellipoint 5.0 software to activate the wheel for the "double click" purpose. After the installation, the touch pad did not function anymore. All I have to do is to reinstall the UNAV driver from the Drivers folder in the C drive Ibmtools folder. Now the touch pad works fine and I have a lot of the wheel options. Thanks for help.
