:HELP: X31 takes forever to boot

#1 Post by Blake » Wed Oct 26, 2005 10:31 am

its been going on for about a week, and its on my last nerve.

so far:
full ibm updates
disk cleanup
adaware
virus check
perfect disk full defrag

when it boots its slow, after the ibm centrino screen it flashes the curser on the top left for a long time, then after the XP screen its black for a period before it goes into the login.

what gives? ne ideas?

try cleaning out your registry. make sure the program you use also makes backups (if not, make sure to do so manually).

if anything, transfer all your data to an external hd and reformat the thinkpad hd and install everything again.

regedit?

are there any good reg programs?

reformatting is my last hope, it normally runs great, or with a little cleanup, but for some reason its hanging on the boot

Hi Blake,

Do you use a domain to login? Does this happen only when you have wireless turned on? If so, turn off wireless before you shut it off, then turn it on again to see if it takes as long to boot.

It may happen if you login using a domain, and if the wireless is turned on, it will try to connect to a domain (usually just a black screen).

Looks to me like your network is trying to boot/connect...try turning all network devices off and rebooting.
