Problems with R&R Partition after Kubuntu Install

#1 Post by KrazieF00 » Wed Oct 26, 2005 4:51 pm

So just installed Kubuntu on my T42 and all was working well until I tried to use partition magic to view/resize some other partitions and now partition magic won't load and keeps crashing out with "error 117". Apparently this error relates to when linux changes partitions and not partition magic. The problem now is that something happened to the R&R partition when I told the ubuntu installer to leave it alone and I can't boot into it. I have GRUB loaded on the MBR right now and am burning recovery CD's.

My main concern is not being able to boot from the recovery discs because GRUB is loading right after the "to interrupt normal startup, press the blue IBM button". I can start to load the R&R partition from GRUB,but then it gives me an error and freezes. Also, if I press the blue button when it tells me to at boot, it goes to the BIOS, not the R&R software. Is this normal? I thought the blue button was supposed to take you to the R&R software? Thanks

To restore the ability to boot to R&R, boot from this:

Also, you can definitely still boot from the recovery CDs. If you haven't already, boot into the BIOS Setup utility by holding down the F1 button on startup, go into the boot section of the system setup, and make sure that the cd drive is higher in the order than booting from the Harddrive. You ought to be able to go into that without any problems.

Cheers
