What is a working A22m with inoperable backlighing worth?

Works fine when hooked up to an external display. LCD is perfect other than the backlighting. Whats it worth?

Not sure about price, but according to Deb Suran (moderator) the A22 series has a problem with the Motherboard, which means someone might want it just for the motherboard.

What model is it? What screen size? Yes, there are plenty of people looking for a working mobo so they can just swap a screen from their dead ThinkPad into it because there are so many dead mobos out there. I paid about $100 plus shipping for one and thought that was a good deal.

There are people who have successfully replaced their backlight. If you would like to continue using it or get more value for the notebook and if you like the challenge of replacing the backlight may be you could consider that option.

What is involved in replacing the backlight? What part would I need? Is a type 2628 RTU. Thanks.

Might just be the power inverter for the lcd that has burned out. Would try replacing this part first.

Look on the IBM/Levono website for the parts list and then do an internet/ebay search for this part.

Fixing the backlight is $10 and 20 minutes work.
It is just a stupid CCFL light bulb, that burns out after some years.

Isn't that part of the actual LCD assembly? I have taken the whole screen apart to add the wireless antenna, but seems kind of hard to take the actual LCD apart.

You won't necessarily know which one is causing your problem until you try replacing one or the other, or both. You many be able to pick up a cheap broken A22 on eBay and cannibalize it for both parts. Just a warning that the LCD bezel is a very thin and fragile piece of plastic, and it WILL BREAK if you don't remove it with some care - it's kept in place with a piece of double-stick tape and you have to pry it off VERY GENTLY. The fact that the tape was holding it on wasn't in the maintenance manual.
