what exactly does remanufactured mean?

#1 Post by bl0tt0 » Thu Oct 27, 2005 12:44 pm

Hello all,

I'm considering making the switch from a 15 in t42p to a smaller and lighter 14-in. T42p with nearly the exact same specs (SXGA+ in place of UXGA, and the smaller footprint). It will actually cost me nearly $600 less, and comes with the normal 3 year warranty.

Only thing I'm nervous about is that it is "remanufatured". What exactly does that mean? I know it's not the same as refurbished, but I know it has something to do with it having been returned for some reason. Can anyone give me a little more info on this and where to go for it?

Thanks

You can remanufacture a laptop with new parts or parts which have themselves been remanufactured (serviced and repair and known to be good). A properly remanufactured machine will look good (if not downright excellent) and work to "new" specifications without problem. But they are not new and cannot be sold as such. Hence the discount.

Exactly .. in fact once the tape is broken from the factory .. even if the machine has never come out of the box .. it's concidered refurbished.
