Another 2668-Q2U Review

#1 Post by sahalin » Thu Oct 27, 2005 11:46 pm

Waited for this thing for 3 weeks like crazy. Believed that none of the problems would happened to me. Here is how it turned out:

Lenovo: Great service and relatively fast delivery and shipping. Excellent!

T43p - The best laptop i have every seen. (I'm sure you all know all the reasons =))There is nothing in this world that would make me give it back except for the:

FAN NOISE!!! It has the most irrational and annoying fan i have ever seen. This thing turns off at maximum cpu usage and performace, and than turns on loud as ever during the times when the screen is not bright and the CPU usage is set to low. ITS ANNOYING; I can tolerate it during daytime because of street traffic, but at night when im just home relaxing in the quietness, ITS ANNOYING AS HELL; How could lenovo mess up what otherwise would be a perfect machine.... I DO NOT KNOW.... Well, thanks god i did not buy it from a store and can refund it without restocking fee.

I guess there is nothing new in this review, but I just need to let my frustration out.... The new model of 2.26 Ghz has the same issues...

I also have a few question to you guys:

How long does the process take to get my money back?
Is 14" model even worse?
Could my Q2U be defected?

Thank You! All your help is greatly appreciated!

Best Regards,

Sahalin

FAN noise is not a problem when it is working correctly

I have had my T43 for just over a week. The fan is well behaved. TP has now gave it a variable speed drive (VSD) where it just ticks over at a low speed most of the time. I can feel a very faint warm breath if I hold my fingers by the center of the left edge where the air discharge is located.

I suspect that your fan settings are not right.

Go into Control panel
Select Power Options
go into Power Manager
Launch Power Manager to edit Power Scheme
select Edit
Where it says "optimize fan parameters", be sure that the "Optimize fan control to" has chosen "Balance all parameters" as I have. It's slick and usually quiet.

When first turned on, the fan rushes to full speed for about 3 seconds, then throttles back to real quiet when it finds nothing much to cool.('8)'
