Is it worth buying a warranty for a T23 that ran out in Aug? Right now it has a bad system board (see Beeps of Death) One yr is $98. As most new(from IBM) boards are $1000+, even as an English major, I can see $98 is lees than $1000, but would it be covered post-warranty? I'm not even sure it would be covered if I got it extended/purchased.

Yes, extended warranties are always worth it.
My A31 went bad, and IBM couldn't repair it... so they replaced it with a new T43 of similar specs (as the A line is discontinued now).
Extended warranties are only as good as the company who backs it. In my case, while it was an extremely slow process (just shy of 2 months from first repair attempt to new laptop)... they did honor it.
Most extended warranties are pretty much a scam, as the company leaves enough loopholes that no matter what, it's not covered. But IBM does seem to respect it and follow through.
I have to give credit where it's due. And as a result of my last experience, I do honestly recommend keeping a warranty going for as long as you value your investment.

Re: Buy/extend warranty?
You would be lucky for hem to even sell you an EW at this point .. as the unit has been OOW for quite a while AND is not in working condition. I don't know what country you are in .. but in Canada you would be pretty much SOL at this point.skygodtj wrote:Is it worth buying a warranty for a T23 that ran out in Aug? On anything like electronics I generally pony up for the EW coverage, it's fairly inexpensive for ThinkPads when you concider the average repair costs of an aging machine.
