Which DVD-Writer is build in Z60m
Which DVD-Writer is build in Z60m
Have someone the Modell-Name of DVD-Drive and how i can switch it to ANY other (NEC ect.) DVD-Writer ?
I've read (on an Online-Shop) in Germany that the Build-In Writer cannot write DVD+R Medium.

Of course it can write DVD-R, ThinkPad burners have always supported - media, it is only recently that + media is also supported.
The dvd burner drives are either the UJ-830Z or the GSA-4080N. Same connectors and all that of the previous Ultrabay Enhanced drives - I think the connector is sort of industry standard but third party drives may need some modifications to the casing for them to fit in.
The model I have at the moment is the GSA-4080N and I have been happily burning DVD-R and DVD-RW media on it.

Write Speed (CD-R) : 10x,16xZCLV, 24x ZCLV
Write Speed (CD-RW) : 4x, 10x, 16x ZCLV
(High Speed: 10x, Ultra Speed: 16x)
Read Speed (CD-R/RW/ROM) : 24x / 24x / 24x max
Read Speed (DVD-R/RW/ROM) : 8x / 6x / 8x max
Write Method(DVD+R/+RW) : 8x / 6xmax
Write Method(DVD-RAM(Ver.1.0/2.1)) : 3x / 2x
Data Transfer Rate(CD) : Max 3,600KB/s, DVD: Max 11.08 Mbytes/s

As was pointed out by snife, there are two options for the DVD Burner on the Z60m: PCC UJ-830Z (Panasonic/M a t s u s h i t a) or HLDS GSA-4080A (Hitachi/LG). Specs on both show that they are both truly super-multi, i.e. read and write +R/RW, -R/RW and RAM.

Today i receive following answer from the (German) Notebook-Shop:
Dear Mr...
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately I cannot say to you, from which manufacturer the inserted DVD Writer comes. However I can confirm that this DVD Writer data medium of the type DVD+R and DVD+RW can only read.
Regards ...

Its seem to be this (from the T40/T41/T42):

THX ALL, for your Help.

Yes! either that or he just doesn't know what he is talking about - i'll leave the choice up to you.Ariel wrote: Or would you say, my Dealer is a Liar?
Both drives that you get with the Z60m will burn +R media - no doubts!
On the link you listed for the UltraBaySlim drive - you will notice that the burner says DVD Multi on the top - all new drives say DVD Multi + indicating the new + write support.
The reason older drives never burned DVD+ media was political and not economical - IBM backed the DVD- so they made sure that the drives didn't support DVD+, and if they did, disabled it. Everything is a bit more friendly now between the 2 standards so most drives now ship supporting both.
