T42 HD Clone - possible?

#1 Post by fhaber » Sun Oct 30, 2005 6:24 pm

On a 15" T42 without fingerprint reader, and with all security turned off, is it possible to clone the HD and have it work? Boot? Will the BIOS complain or just lock?

a. With an off-the-shelf drive? Or do I need IBM firmware even to boot?

b. With a replacement drive from Lenovo?

What do businesses do to propagate an image, if the drive's firmware is part of the security system?

you could clone (image) the drive itself... and it will work fine.

Base don your firmware talk... I'd recommend looking at what imaging is about, I don't think your quite clear on it.

disable security, use your cloning software (if you use ghost, use the -ib switch)

the t42 will accept non-ibm branded hdd just fine, even the 100GB ones

I have a T23, I don't see an option to disable security in the BIOS. Will the c:\>ghost -ib work or should I try a different imaging method?

Thanks,
The T23 does not have a bios protected HPA. Ghost should work but try also IBM's Rescue&Recovery.
