New T43P and Some Questions

#1 Post by trezaei » Mon Oct 31, 2005 5:09 pm

Hi all,

I dropped a lot of dough on a T43p 2668Q2U

It has all the new jazza and I added another GB for a total of 2.
It took a LOOOONG time to get here due to customs issues and other incompetancies on the part of lenovo and ups but its here and

Its great!

Here are some of my concerns:

1) DVD combo drive seems to not sit streight and has some trouble reading "some" CDs. Like the driver install CD for my HP printer.
2) Has anyone found a way to clone these drives in such a way that they actually work
3) The finger print reader. Can you use it for anything else other than windows logon.
4) I did the thinkbvantage installer and got all the updates. This gave me like 200 updates but
a) Do any of you use the security chip and any of this extra security
b) It asked me to remove my Bluetooth and install the new one, I did that, and now it shows two bluetooth icons one of which now doesn't work.
5) has anyone used the restore features? is there tutorials on how to best set this stuff up? I don't have the time to read a bunch of docs and certainly don't have time to do it wrong a couple of times.

My judgement so far, Lenovo sucks IBM was great.
I love this laptop!!!

Their restore/imaging software is crap. Get a copy of Acronis True Image for $35 (get 8.0 as I hear 9.0 is still a bit buggy).

Acronis rocks. So much faster.

If backups are slow, you make less of them.... that's a bad thing.

The only "goodies" i use on my t43p is the power management and the software installer (just to keep drivers up to date). But i don't use the security chip (not now at least) and all other goodies displayed in the software installer

You should probably try the Search button at the top of the screen to get the answers to most of your questions. I answer a lot of posts, but when I get confronted with a 'laundry list', I really don't feel like replying. Maybe it's just a foible of mine.

I can vouch that the HP driver cd's are known to be buggy on many systems. I cant explain the technical reasons but I know that they tend to freeze during installation..

b) try manually removing the original bluetooth drivers before installing the updated version..
