The FDA is pissing me off.

#1 Post by hootpie » Mon Oct 31, 2005 5:15 pm

They put a hold on my T43 that arrived in CA last Thursday night and still have not cleared it. I figured they'd clear it Thursday night or Friday afternoon at the latest and that I'd have it no later than today...WRONG. I called up UPS today and they said that it was supposed to be delivered on Friday, but the FDA still hasn't cleared the hold.

So now I have to wait for that processing center to call me and tell me what the hold up is (it's a freaking laptop in a 9lb package, not a nuclear bomb or a bunch of dead chickens).

How long did it take for your laptop to get FDA clearance?

Edit: I just received a call from the UPS strategic center (whatever that is). Apparently, there was some issue with the shipment, but UPS and Lenovo figured it out, so it's going to be cleared by customs at 4pm and should be here tomorrow! If it is: :D, if it's not :x :x

If mine is going to take that long, I might just cancel the order and explore other options.

Did you call UPS or Lenovo at all to complain? I called UPS and complained that I was very unsatisfied and they said they would have the Ontario, CA processing center call me by tomorrow to help speed up the process.

They cant do a thing, you know. They will simply blame the customs! But do give it a try. Complaining might help.

Heck.. if mine "gets lost in customs", maybe I'll simply cancel the order....

Then wait a few days, and place another order. Maybe after trying a couple times, they'll get it right.

I had one allegedly ship on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and arrive by Friday on the east coast (unusually quick, even suprised Lenovo).

Typically, it's about 5 days from ship to receive.
T43 (2687-DUU) - 1.86GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 100GB 5400 (non IBM-firmware Hitachi 5k100) HD, Fingerprint Scanner, 802.11abg/Bluetooth, ATI x300

For "standard shipping" that makes sense. We're not talking "express" service, right?

The whole "brokerage held package beyond ups control" is, imo, BS.. Part of the job of the shipper is to sort out the logistics of getting the package to the destination. Any shipper that blames delays on weather, etc, is simply lazy. "Unexpected" circumstances, I can see. But, come on, the bird-flu thing is not new, the weather is predictable, and so on. Simply plan ahead. Its their job; especially so if the customer is paying extra for the shipper's "express" service.

B^)

Incidently, if you go to the UPS website today and plan a shipment from HK to LA, there's no mention of bird-flu, customs, brokerage issues, etc. If its been such a big deal (since september?), then why no mention of it on the website?
