can slim cdrw/dvd fit into older cd24 type ultra 2000 ?

I can get an inexpensive CDRW DVD for slim (ultra II ?). They are cheaper than genuine ultra 2000 cdrw/dvd.

Anyone disassembled older 24x (or maybe slower) IBM cdrom and use its rear panel to make the slim new style fit in an A20M?

I once made a gateway 24x cdrom fit into older type IBM. it was functional but didnt look good. It was not an RW or even DVD however. If it does not fit or look good then I might as well spend more and get the ultra2000.
