Just purchased a t40p on ebay
Hello all.
Just wanted some opinions on the deal i got for a t40p, i did a buy it now for $1785 shipped 2-day, still 2 years left on the warranty, and with a gig of ram i thought this was a pretty decent deal. I dont mind the 40 gig HD as i have a 60 gig waiting at my house, it just needs a home. I also didnt mind that the wifi was only a/b because i have an extra g card too.
Opinions?

For a PCMCIA card, you're fine...Just install the drivers and turn off the internal card.trilogy wrote:Really? The bios wont let me use a linksys PCMCIA card?eriqesque wrote:Seems to be a great deal.
Just be careful on the wireless card, the ones with the a/b card are not user replaceable, So if you change it wear gloves. Also on the spare "g" card you have it will have to be an IBM wireless card or the BIOS will reject it.
I think we all assume internal when refering to wireless
BTW, I have a t40p and it's a great machine - A bit of the fan 5 sec. noise, and creaky left palm rest...Other than that, it's a great machine AND I think you got a great deal...

Yeah, i think a/b will be fine for now, most wireless networks wont give you the bandwith that G can handle at this point anyways, so i wont need the G card for another year or so, if then. It's mainly helpful for file xfer across networks.
Is it worth buying more memory for this? i can probably get a good deal from crucial or something, although 1 gig should be enough.
Anything you reccomend i do when i recieve it? first thing i will do is format it and install XP, which is what i always do, i guess the next thing is to hit the ibm support site and update everything.
Cant wait.
