T43 heart transplant

#1 Post by netguardianii » Tue Nov 01, 2005 7:32 pm

Out of curiosity, would it be possible (and practical, mind you) to open up a T43 and replace the Pentium M processor with a Turion 64? Would the wireless chipset go bonkers?

you need to replace the system board for that, and no system board for AMD turon 64 can fit on the T43 chassis...

How does the existing system board look like? I'm too afraid to open my T43 just yet.

It would be impossible to replace the Pentium M in your T43 with a Turion 64. The Pentium M uses a modified AGTL+ bus to connect to the 915xM chipset. The Turion 64 in contrast has an integrated single channel bus to the memory and a HyperTransport link to the chipset.

The sockets are different, the bus protocols are different, and the CPU/Chipset topology is different.

since you requested, this is the basic layout of the T42/T43 system board:

Within the known limits, you can replace CPU's in a T machine (done that), but if you are afraid to open your machine, don't even go there. You need a steady hand, the hardware guide, heat sink compound and very good screwdrivers. ... JD Hurst
