windows xp randomly starts on my T42!

#1 Post by geefe » Wed Nov 02, 2005 12:10 pm

Today I tried to start my T42, but WINDOWS XP doesn´t complete start up.
It freezes at the BLACK screen that says Windows xp intializing...
I tried to start in SAFE mode and I succeeded. But after that it happened again not being able to start in NORMAL mode.
After 6 times, it suddenly started normally.

I do not know what could have been. I didn´t install any new software or changed anything for this to happen or stops happening.
Now I am performing a BIOS update and some drivers too. But I am not sure any of these was the cause, but I have no clues about it.
Is it HD malcfunction? maybe Windows troubleshooting?

Thanks for your help, friends.

run DFT to test the hard drive for problems

run memtest to test if you have faultry memory

even get a copy of PC-DOCTOR for DOS and run diagnostics

If you can get a cd of XP there are some troubleshooting tools at startup.

thanks very much.
I will try first with PC Doctor. It´s really strange. It happened to me one again yesterday, but in a different way. The first time it didn´t even power up, after that I pressed the start button for a longer period and it turned on.
It is a different problem than the one with Windows freezing at its black screen.

If there are any suggestions, they´ll be welcome.

I bought a 600E that exhibited simular problems. However, when I removed the main battery it booted up fine every time. While this likely isn't your problem, it may be something to try.
