thinkpad software installer ATI Video driver issue...

#1 Post by pointfielder » Wed Nov 02, 2005 7:20 pm

Hi all,
I recently tried to update my thinkpad software using the software installer.

One of the options it threw at me as a recommendation was the ATI Video
driver. I went ahead with the recommendation, overlooking the version
number and ran into trouble capturing images and making movies because
the images were all messed up.

Turns out, my machine, a T43p (specs in the .signature), came with the
preinstalled Video Driver Version:
IBM 8.10.5-050224m-021424C (containing ATI 6.14.10.6512)

and the software installer recommended an older version:
IBM 8.082.2-041211m-019929C (containing ATI 6.14.10.6497)

So, people should be careful when they update their software.

Does anyone know how to stop the installer from recommending an older
version of some software?

Thanks,
Pointfielder

One surefire way to keep it from recommending old versions: DON'T USE IT.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be a wisacre. But I had the exact same problem and eventually just went back to updating software the old fashioned way... take heart, you are not alone.
