T42 Trackpoint buttons -- excessive pressure required?

#1 Post by SteveDC » Thu Nov 03, 2005 10:58 am

Compared to my T20 and T40, the Trackpoint "mouse" buttons require a much higher force to depress. After about 20 times, my thumb was sore enough to go back to using a mouse. Does this require less pressure over time with use? Support said there is some variability, but it is not considered a defect.

I guess I could just put my T40 keyboard in the T42, right? I have removed the keyboard in the T40 board to change the 802.11b card.

Thank you in advance for any tips.

Definitely doesn't sound right. I would say that the trackpoint buttons are only marginally harder to press than the keyboard keys. If your thinkpad is still under warranty, I would give IBM a call to see about getting a replacement. About swapping in the older keyboard, sorry, I have no idea

if i remember right theres just an indented rubber washer/button type thing under the plastic button that keeps it up, the buttons did get looser on my older thinkpads, on my x21 i even had to swap the left/right because the right side's washer wore out.
