Will it damage my computer?

#1 Post by xx86pro » Thu Nov 03, 2005 11:50 am

I always move with my computer in the stand by mode. Will it damage my computer chronically? Because the system is not totally shut down in stand by mode. The memory is still with the power supply.

Nope; there are no moving parts to be affected by movement. I have done this with all my Laptops, including my T43, and have not noticed any bad effects. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

The only downside of standby, over hibernate is that if the battery is dead, or disconnected (or no power)... you can loose anything in RAM (unsaved stuff). So before you standby... SAVE. People forget to do this all the time.

Or just hibernate, which saves the entire RAM to disk... and no worries..

You might also want to lock the eject button of the Ultraybay or disable/remove the Ultrabay device first. If the eject button is pushed when the computer is in standby it wakes up.
