X32 CPU temperature - is this normal?
The CPU temperature depends on the power scheme. I usually use "Thinkpad default".
When the laptop isn't doing anything, the temperature is around 50C, but when the CPU is used fully for a few minutes (solving something), the temperature climbs to 80C.
Does this sound normal? I'm using Centrino Hardware Control to monitor the CPU: http://www.pbus-167.com/chc.htm

I have an X31 (different processor) but I don't believe it has ever gone over 70 and is usually in the hi 50's, low 60's.
Current: 2 x W520 ET, 3 x X220 i7, T420, X230 i5, T420s, MacbookPro, Dell Venue 11 Pro

And just to expand, when it got up to 70, I was doing major major number crunching - statistical analysis on a very large dataset.mpcook wrote:I have an X31 (different processor) but I don't believe it has ever gone over 70 and is usually in the hi 50's, low 60's.

Anyone with an X32?
Note, it takes more than a few seconds of serious 'thinking' for my laptop to get to 80C.
What worries me though, is that if the CPU wasn't installed properly - the contact with the heat sink isn't tight enough, it can lead to higher than normal temperatures, or more fan activity than is necessary.
