How reboot in safe mode?

How do I reboot my Thinkpad 600/W98SE in safe mode? (Sorry for such a simple question--I have no manual & couldn't find this searching old posts.)

As soon as the IBM boot screen goes away start tapping "F8" until you see a boot menu, use up and down arrows to select safe mode, press "enter" and you are on your way.
T60 2623-D7U, 3 GB Ram.
Dual boot XP and Linux Mint.
